The North East Aircraft Museum is located to the north of the Nissan factory along side the A19. The museum house 30+ airframes many in various stages of restoration. The collection also houses a large number of aircraft engines along with other aviation related items.

The Solway Aviation Museum is located within the grounds of Carlisle Airport in Cumbria. The collection houses around 12 aircraft including a Vulcan Bomber and a F4 Phantom.
The old buildings on the site also contain several aircraft engines and other aviation related items.
The collection also has a room dedicated to the Blue Steak Rocket program which was operated by the nearby Spadeadam Range.

 | 18th Aug 2008 | Sunderland Airshow 2008 (Newcastle Airport) (40 images)
Sunderland International Airshow 2008 was sadly cancelled on both Saturday and Sunday due to thick mist and fog on the sea front.
The weather at Newcastle Airport though was sunny, hot and dry. Many of the aircraft based at the airport for the weekend had other shows to attend so we did see some flying.

The Tyne has 2 helicopter landing sites within veiwing of the Tyne Bridge. On the North side is RMR Tyne (Royal Marine Reserves) and on the South side HMS Calliope (Royal Navy Reserves). The sites regularly see helicopter traffic.
Further up the river on the North side next to the Arena concert venue is the Newcastle Heliport which is sometimes used by VIP's and Pop Stars who may be performing at the Arena other traffic can include the RAF/AAC/RN who may call in for fuel.

 | 19th Feb 2008 | 25 SQN Disbandment RAF Leeming 2008 (38 images)
April 2008 saw yet another long standing RAF Squadron disapear. 25 Squadron the last of the Tornado Squadron's based at RAF Leeming operated the Panavia Tornado F3 for 9 years from the base.
25 Squdron first started operations in 1932 flying the Hawker Fury Mk1 followed by : 1940-1942 Bristol Beufighter, 1938-1941 Bristol Blenheim, 1942-1951 De Havilland Mosquito, 1951-1954 De Havilland Vampire, 1954-1958 Gloster Meteor, 1958-1962 Gloster Javlin, 1963-1989 Bristol Bloodhound MK2 Missile during the cold war and finally 1989-2008 Panavia Tornado F3.
RAF Leeming will now become the home to just 100 Squadron flying the BAE Hawk.

RAF Dishorth is home to the AAC flying the Lynx and Gazelle helicopter. Both types have been used in the war in Afganistan and Iraq and aircraft from this base have served in both regions.
Sadly the base closed its doors to the AH64's and they all moved down to RAF Wattisham in Suffolk.

BAE Warton can be found not far from Preston. It is home to the British Aerospace production line who manufacture the Eurofighter Typhoon. The factory also carries out work on the new bulid Hawk trainers for the RAF once they have left the production line at BAE Brough. The factory also builds the Typhoon for the Saudi Airforce.
Recently the production line has also completed an order for the Indian airforce supplying them with the Hawk trainer.
Other test aircraft can also be seen here as well as visiting aircraft from the Uk and other counties who BAE have orders with.

 | 23rd Nov 2007 | RAF Linton on Ouse Graduation Day (26 images)
RAF Linton on Ouse in Yorkshire holds several Graduation days throughout the year. These Graduation days are for pilots who have graduated from flying the Shorts Tucano and are now moving to flying the BAE Hawk advanced trainer at RAF Valley in Wales.
Aircraft from any Squadron of the RAF can be seen to do flypasts aswell as the usual 9 ship formation of Shorts Tucano's. Flypast's usually start around 0930 and go on until around midday.

RNAS Sultan is located near to the town of Gosport not far from Portsmouth. The station is the home of the Royal Navy School of Marine Engineering and the Rpyal Naval Air Engineering and Survival School.
The primary role of the station is to supply the Naval Fleet with engineering officers. The facility is also sold to foreign navies and to British industry.

2007 saw two base visits to RAF Linton on Ouse. RAF Linton on Ouse is possibly one of the busiest airfields in the UK. It is home to 4 flying squadrons which are 72(R) SQN, 207(R) SQN, 76(R) SQN and the Central Flying School (CFS) all of the squadrons fly the Shorts Tucano T.1.
Their mission is to train future fast jet pilots for the RAF.

RAF Leeming is home to 100 Sqn operating the Hawk in a number of training tasks including JFACTSU (Joint Forward Air Controller Training Standards Unit) their primary role is to teach Forward Air Controlling.
And Northumbria Universities Air Sqn (No 11 Air Experience Flight) operating the Grob Tutor.
RAF Leeming also used by many helicopters such as Merlins, Puma's and Chinooks using the near by Catterick Garrison.
It is hoped that due to Leemings location aircraft will deploy and use the Electronics range at RAF Spadeadam

 | | RAF Spadeadam & Carlisle (90 images)
RAF Spadeadam is located on the border of Cumbria and Northumberland. The range is the only Electronic Wefare Tactics Range in the UK with the only other one in Europe be located in Germany.
The range provides realistic training for aircrews in the UK and other NATO Air Forces.
Ground threats consist of Short Range Air Defence (SHORAD), Surface To Air Missile Systems (SAM) and Anti-Aircraft Artillery (AAA).
The complex also has other visual threats including a dummy airfield with aircraft (T33's), a mock village, missile sites and mobile vehicles.
The range is used by many of the UK's Air Exercises such as Panther Swift, Cold Igloo, Wycombe Warrior, Skylance, Neptune Warrior to name a few. Regular visitors also include aircraft transiting through on TLP missions.
During part of their training course students can also be found conducting Forward Air Controller (FAC) training some times with helicopters including Gazelle, Lynx and AH64
